RIMS Calendar Upgrade in the Works

An upgraded/improved RIMS equipment reservation calendar is in the works ... and hopefully will be able to be rolled out live within the next few weeks depending on how the code testing continues to go. New features will include:

Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to going live with the new calendar.

Filtered Equipment List for Log In Coming Soon

Another planned enhancement coming soon to RIMS will be a filtered list of equipment determined by lab space login. Rather than the entire list of qualified equipment items appearing in the drop-down list, only the equipment items in the respective logged-in lab space will appear to make the process more efficient. Users shouldn't panic when it appears as though their log-in equipment list has gotten shorter! It will just be filtered as a result of this enhancement.

Warning Light Testing in Nanofab Cleanroom

A new air monitoring system is being installed in the Nanofab Cleanroom that will monitor certain aspects of air quality. Over the next few weeks while the system is being installed and tested, users may notice red and yellow warning lights flashing in the Cleanroom. Per the "light testing in progress" signs currently posted in the lab, the warning lights can be ignored until further notice is given that the testing phase of the new system is complete. When the system is operational, an e-mail will be sent out and new signs will be posted with instructions for users should the warning lights flash in a non-testing situation. Please contact the Nanofab staff if you have questions or concerns.

Reminder to Request Billing Accounts through UFIS in Advance

We have been getting a significant volume of help requests from users who don't have a valid billing account in RIMS. Users, PIs, and billing contacts receive an e-mail advance warning from RIMS at 30 days prior and then again at 14 days prior to an account end date. We encourage users to promptly consult with their PIs and department billing contacts and then submit a request through UFIS for a replacement billing account to be added to RIMS. Per Federal grant management policy, it is not permitted to charge to an account after the end date. The sooner a request is submitted in UFIS, the better chance a user has to avoid disruption of work when the ending account closes. The facility technical staff, administration, or business office cannot provide a replacement account for work to continue without disruption. The user's department is responsible for providing that replacement account number - either another project that the user will now be working on or an advance fund number assigned by Research Accounting to bridge the gap between account closing and establishment of a new account or new year funding increment. Questions about doing so should be directed to your department billing contacts.

RIMS and UFIS Access Sluggish Intermittently Due to University WebAccess Degraded Status

Due to a current issue with the University's WebAccess system, users may experience delays when trying to log into or out of RIMS or UFIS. It may take a few minutes for credentials to authenticate succesfully, so please try to arrive a few minutes early for your reservation to account for this potential delay. The connection will eventually connect successfully, so please wait patiently rather than assume that the systems are down. The ITS Alert to monitor status of this issue is posted here.

Nanofab Cleanroom Open Again with MOST Tools Back Online

The Nanofab Cleanroom in the MRI Building is now open again following the weekend closure for utilities work.  Most tools are back online and available for use.  However, there are a handful of tools that require longer to be brought back online. Please refer to RIMS for tool status and expected date and time of tool availability.

UFIS New URL and Programming Enhancements

Users may notice a new look effective today to UFIS, the data-collection companion system to RIMS. The functionality of UFIS remains basically the same with just some minor form field improvements and cleaned-up drop-down lists. Please note the new UFIS URL to which the previous URL has been redirected. If you have questions about the basic UFIS programming enhancements that have occurred, please e-mail RIMS@psu.edu

Calendar Scrolling and Variable Column Width Work Around

As part of the RIMS upgrade completed on 7/15/2010, we are experiencing some scrolling and variable column width issues with the equipment reservation calendar. We are working on a fix for this and will roll it out as soon as the programming is ready. In the meantime, switch from Week View to Day View in the calendar view to open days that are not wide enough on the Week View to see or make a reservation. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Conversion to Penn State Web Access for RIMS Authentication

As July 15, 2010, users will use Penn State Web Access credentials to access RIMS. If your RIMS user name does not match your Penn State Access Account ID, please contact RIMS@psu.edu to adjust your RIMS user name. After July 14th, you will not be able to log in to RIMS unless your RIMS user name matches your Penn State Access Account ID. If you are an external user who logs into RIMS yourself to do your work, you will need to get a Friends of Penn State (FPS) account (for which the preferred browser is Firefox; a submit glitch may occur if using Internet Explorer). If all your work is done by facilities technical staff members remotely and you don't log in to the system yourself, you do not need to have a FPS account.

New RIMS Home/Login Page

A newly, redesigned RIMS (formerly Portal) "home/login page" is being rolled out July 15, 2010, to replace the former, plain blue Portal login page. The new RIMS launchpad will serve as a comprehensive starting point for RIMS system login and UFIS account requests as well as alerts, announcements, and system status updates. In addition, a variety of educational resources and information is available via the navigation buttons at the top of the page. The Portal was renamed RIMS to distinguish it more readily from the various other Portals on and off campus.
